Grid

What is Grid

Grid Computing turns the conventional attitude to IT resources on its head. Traditionally, applications are installed on their own systems and then wait for their services to be requested. In a Grid Computing environment, IT components such as applications, storage and processors are dynamically allocated and freed again to serve other requests when they are not being used. This results in a harmony between Grid Computing and a SOA, where an organisation's business processes are orchestrated as IT services, any of which may demand system resources that a Grid Computing environment can allocate dynamically.

The key technologies for Grid include: Virtualisation (no static installation on real components); Dynamic provisioning (mechanisms to allocate resources to tasks); and Automation (of administration and management of the Grid resulting in the Grid managing itself).
Grid gives a flexibitly to add nodes or to spread nodes in the environment saving overprovised and add capacity incrementally .

Applications of Grid

For Finance Companies and Institution
Grid are used in Financial Banks and Instiuttions. Suppose you need a large report to be run Or need to make Financail Model for a particular situation where huge computing powers is required a grid can be used where the cpu utlisation from various computers can be used Today, stock exchanges, banks and hedge fund companies often rely on 1 Gb Ethernet to do their trading. This can cost millions of dollars in missed trading revenue because they can't process the transactions fast enough.

This solution done with Grids Help provides these organizations transaction with a faster, reliable way to conduct trades. Algo trading firms that use this combination can make more trades in less time, directly improving their organization's revenue.

Oracle For Grid

Grid is an advanced Distributed Database .

When you use a grid the need to manage the Oracle Grid as grid grows increases the complexity of managing the database .Oracle has self managing features which will help
Manage the Oracle Grid . Also Oracle Enterprise manager grid can be used to understand the performance of the grid or manage the GRId

Oracle Grid Control Help administrators manage software in a grid, including Web applications, hosts and the network.

The suite includes new service modeling, graphical service topologies and service dashboards that help administrators simplify and automate the delegation of tedious computing tasks. New root cause analysis tools help managers find problems in the application stack that can hinder performance.

Admins can then track the grid's performance across multiple nodes and tiers through one Web-based console.

By keeping the software current with reference-based patching, businesses can adjust to changes in resource demands with the assurance that each deployment is tested and is in compliance with corporate standards.

Oracle Grid Computing Features are

Standardization on low cost high density modular servers and storage based On technology such as Intel Itanium Processor ,blade servers, and Linux

Consolidations of clusters of servers and storage shared among one or more data centers
Automations
Has features to to enable a single administrator to simultaneously handle hundreds of servers in clusters
